White Mules let 2-goal lead slip away

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Dane Taylor scored on a one-timer in the third period as Wesleyan College rallied with two goals in the period to skate to a 2-2 ice hockey tie with Colby College on Saturday. Todd O'Hara scored in the first period and Cory Ernest in the second to give Colby (9-4-3, 6-3-3 in the NESCAC) a 2-0 lead. Will Bennett also scored in the third for Wesleyan (7-7-4, 5-5-3 in the NESCAC). Chris Riles had 16 stops for Colby, while Jim Panczykowski and Dave Scardella combined for 39 saves for Wesleyan. MEN'S BASKETBALL MAINE 71, STONY BROOK 63: In Stony Brook, N.Y., Eric Dobson scored a game-high 22 points, and Maine extended Stony Brook's losing streak to three games. Kevin Reed scored 18 points for the Black Bears (12-6, 6-3 America East Conference), who led 26-24 at halftime. D.J. Munir scored 19 points to lead the Seawolves (6-12, 3-6), who lost for the fifth time in six games. Mike Popoko finished with 15 points. WILLIAMS 93, COLBY 69: The Ephs went 16-for-29 from 3-point range on their way to a NESCAC victory over the White Mules in Waterville. Tucker Kain scored 21 points to lead Williams (18-1, 15-0 in the conference). Michael Crotty chipped in nine points and 11 assists. Drew Cohen led Colby (5-15, 1-5 in the conference) with 15 points, five rebounds, three block shots and three assists. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL UM-FARMINGTON 70, THOMAS 58: Kari Simpson scored 17 points as the Beavers cruised to victory over the Terriers in Waterville. Cony graduate Karen Sirois added 12 points and Meagan Cyr had 11 ponts for UM-Farmington. Megan Boyd chipped in 10 points for the Terriers. Gardiner native Ashley Hathaway scored 16 points for Thomas College. WILLIAMS 77, COLBY 56: Colleen Hession had 19 points as the Ephs cruised to a win over the White Mules in Williamstown, Ma. Wendy Bonner led Colby (9-11) with 15 points. Williams is now 16-3. Also Saturday: Skowhegan Area High School graduate Tiffany Jones had 19 points and Erskine Academy grad Donna Cowing had six points as the University of Southern Maine women's basketball team defeated Western Connecticut, 76-50, in Danbury, Conn. . . . Cony High School graduate Jac Arbour scored eight points as the Bowdoin College men's basketbll team defeated Middlebury, 72-48, in Brunswick. . . . Messalonskee grad Hana Pelletier (1,000), Waterville grad Troy Irvine (pole vault), Erskine grad Nolan Tobey (mile), and Katie Page (shot put) all earned first place finishes as the University of Maine men's track team beat Central Connecticut and the Maine women's team defeated New Hamsphire and Central Connecticut in Orono. Farmingdale native, Ben Gray, a graduate of St. Dominic High School, saved 27 of 28 shots as the Lebanon Valley College ice hockey team defeated Southern New Hampshire, 6-1. |
